The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RISIEC, has fixed August 9, 2025 for fresh local government elections.

This was revealed by Justice Adolphus Enebeli (rtd.), the Chairman of RSIEC on Wednesday, March 5, 2025. Enebeli while speaking during a stakeholders’ meeting in Port Harcourt stated that the decision was in line with the last Friday’s Supreme Court judgement.
The Supreme Court judgement nullified the October 5, 2024, local government elections conducted by his commission in the state.
Recall that Siminalayi Fubara, the governor of Rivers State, assured the people that his administration will implement the Supreme Court’s verdict.
