Court Sentences Man To Death For Attempted Murder in Ekiti

A High Court in Ekiti State has sentenced 51-year-old Owoeye Rotimi Ojo to death by hanging for attempted murder and armed robbery.

The ruling came after Owoeye Rotimi Ojo was found guilty of conspiracy, attempted murder and armed robbery. Owoeye and accomplices who are still on the run

had conspired to commit armed robbery and attempted to murder one Adeyemi Funmilayo and Adesola Omolola on May 21, 2023, at Oluwole Orungbe Street in Ado-Ekiti.

The defendant, Owoeye, had robbed the victim of her handbag containing an unspecified sum of money and a handset valued at N85,000.

The 51-year-old man and others still on the run also robbed Adesola Omolola of her laptop, phones, flash drives, and cash sum of ₦10,000, among other things. They carried out the robbery with guns, cutlasses and axes.

While giving a testimony, Omolola told the court that he was at home around 8pm and was about to go to bed, but one of his sons was outside.

According to him, the defendant and other members fully armed with guns, cutlasses, and axes stormed his residence. They ordered him to lie face down and then ordered his eldest son to lead them inside the room, where they carted away valuables and cash worth ₦710,000.
