As we draw nearer to the date for the Edo governorship election (September 19), a total of 2,210,534 residents have registered to participate in the voting process.
According to the Independent National Electoral Commission, out of the total accredited voters, 1,159,325 are men, while 1,052,209 are women. It was also reported that, youths between the ages of 18 and 35 make up 50 per cent of voters.
This statistics was made known at the INEC office during the presentation of voter register to the 14 political parties taking part in the election in Benin on Monday.
According to the register, the South Senatorial District was seen to have the highest number of registered voters with a total of 1,281,414, followed by the North with 564,122, while the least was the Central Senatorial District with 364,998 voters.
It also stated that 483,769 voters failed to collect their PVCs.
May Agbamuche-Mbu, the INEC National Commissioner supervising Edo, Bayelsa and Rivers states, said the election would be held under strict compliance to the NCDC guidelines on Covid-19.
