The Federal Government promised to pay N48,000; an amount that is far below N615,000, which unions were demanding as the new national minimum wage. For this reason, Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress dropped minimum wage talks on Wednesday. Angry with the offer from Federal Government, they left the meeting and called the press to express their feelings towards the offer as “an insult to the sensibilities of Nigerian workers.”

After rejecting proposals for a new minimum wage of N48,000 and N54,000 from the government and the organised private sector (OPS) respectively, organized labor pulled out of the minimum wage negotiations yesterday.
