According to Wikipedia, Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai was born on the 16th of February, 1960 to a family in Daudawa. It was gathered that, he lost his father while he was just 8 years old, and was sponsored through his early schooling by an uncle in Kaduna.
Before his involvement in
politics, he founded a quantity surveying consulting firm known as El-Rufai & Partners, with three partners which he managed from 1982 to 1998.
Following the death of Nigeria’s military head of state, General Sani Abacha, In 1998, General Abdulsalami Abubakar appointed El-Rufai as an economic advisor, this role meant he had to work with the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF).
El-Rufai declared his campaign for Governor of Kaduna State in 2014, and later went on to emerge as the candidate for Governor of Kaduna State under the All Progressive Congress, APC. He won the state’s governorship election, with over one million votes to defeat the incumbent Governor Mukhtar Ramalan Yero, a candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP.

The governor is married to three wives, his first wife who goes by the name Hadiza Isma El-Rufai, is a writer and novelist.
