Hannah Reuben, the last prospect from Nigeria, lost her women’s freestyle 76 kg fight early Saturday to end the country’s slim hope of making the podium. She lost 5-2 to Mongolia’s Enkh-Amaryn Davaanasan in the round of 16 tie.
So many Nigerians had high hopes for Team Nigeria after their great performances in qualifying events. The country registered for 12 events and lost all chances at the Olympics.
The last time Nigeria returned home from the Olympics without a medal was at the London Games in 2012.
Recall that President Bola Tinubu approved N12 billion to support the team at the Olympics and the Paralympics. N9bn was budgeted for the former and N3bn for the latter.
