Fresh LG Elections Will Hold August 9th, Says Rivers Electoral Body

The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RI­SIEC, has fixed August 9, 2025 for fresh local gov­ernment elections.

This was revealed by Justice Adolphus Enebeli (rtd.), the Chairman of RSIEC on Wednesday, March 5, 2025. Enebeli while speaking during a stakeholders’ meeting in Port Harcourt stated that the decision was in line with the last Fri­day’s Supreme Court judgement.

The Supreme Court judgement nullified the October 5, 2024, local govern­ment elections conducted by his commission in the state.

Recall that Siminalayi Fubara, the governor of Rivers State, assured the people that his administration will implement the Supreme Court’s verdict.
