As the Edo State governorship elections draw closer, the Deputy Director-General (Media) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Reverend Olu Martins, has been arrested by the police.
Olu is in charge of the governorship campaign organisation of the PDP in Edo State. The campaign organiser was charged in court over alleged inflammatory and inciting statements.
This wasn’t disclosed by CP Funsho Adegboye, the Edo State Police Commissioner.
According to CP Funsho, “Of a recent, there was a viral video of an inflammatory statement made by Rev. Olu Martins that can heat up the electioneering campaign processes in the state.
“He was invited to serve as a deterrent to others of like-behaviours, and we also decided that the matter should be resolved at the court.”
The CP also advised other political leaders and followers to abide by the rules of the political process in Nigeria.
The PDP spokesman, who has now been granted bail, was seen in a viral video calling for the vandalism of campaign materials by opposition parties.
He was also alleged to have threatened any opposition to the PDP candidate.
There are also reports that Olu Martins allegedly asked Engineer David Olukoga, the Director of Operation of the Edo state-owned security network, to attack anyone who was not in support of the PDP candidate.
