President Bola Tinubu has hosted former Presidents Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari at the inaugural Council of State meeting on Tuesday.
The meeting is being held at the State House Council Chambers at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, and is the first Council meeting held under Tinubu’s administration.
Other top political leaders present are former Heads of State, General Yakubu Gowon (rtd) and General Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd). Also, governors from Abia, Adamawa, and Akwa Ibom States were also present.
The Council of State is meant to advise the executive on policymaking. It is chaired by the president and vice president and includes all living former Heads of State and Presidents, former Chief Justices of Nigeria and the incumbent, the Senate President, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, all state governors, and the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF).
PAPERNG gathered that the previous meeting, held on February 10, 2023, under the tenure of President Buhari, focused on the 2023 elections and other issues facing the country.
